Latin Name:
Pimienta dioica

Physical Description:
Allspice is a small tree similar to the Bay Laurel. The fruit is picked when green and dried in the sun, resembling large brownish peppercorns.
Usage:
Allspice is commonly used in Caribbean seasoning, moles, cakes, sausages, spice blends and pickling. For best flavor, grind the dry seeds immediately before use. The leaves and wood can also be used to smoke meat.
Factoids:
Because it is dioecious, it needs to have a tree of the opposite sex in proximity for the fruits to develop.
