Physical Description:
Blueberries grow on shrub bushes with shiny pointed bright-to-dark green leaves. In the fall, the leaves change color and turn red.
Usage:
Blueberries are eaten fresh, dried and cooked down. Dried, they make an excellent addition to muesli, sauces and sweet breads such as muffins. Simmered down, they make jams, syrups, sauces and infusions for liqueurs. High in antioxidants, blueberries are claimed to reverse the signs of mental aging and prevent urinary tract infections.
Factoids:
Blueberries are "false berries" of the genus Vaccinium, and dark blue when ripe. They have a sweet taste.
