Physical Description:
Currant leaves have five points, with serrated edges, similar to oak leaves; they grow on shrubby bushes. Currants grow in abundant clusters, and are bright red, black or clear white with a small black dots opposite the stem.
Usage:
Currants are made into jam, preserves, and syrups. In Europe, they are made into potent brandies, cordials and infused into beer. The leaves can be infused into sweetened vodka.
Factoids:
Currants have many uses in traditional medicine; they are believed to have fever-reducing, sweat-inducing, menstrual-flow inducing, diuretic, and digestive properties.
