Feijoa sellowiana

The Guava Pink Flesh (also known as Pineapple Guava or Guavasteen), is a small tree with thin copper-colored bark that flakes off, and evergreen oval or oblong-elliptic shaped leaves. Guava fruits are round and have thin green skin; on the inside, they have pink-orangeflesh filled with hard, yellowish seeds.
Guava Pink Flesh are excellent raw or make great addition to smoothies. They are also used to make feijoa wine, cider or infuse vodka. Skin is edible, but sour and bitter - good balance to sweetness of flesh. Even the flower petals of Guava are sweet and edible! It is hard to tell when the fruit is ripe, since skin remains green even when the fruit is starting to rot. When the fruit drops from the tree, fruit is most likely at its best.
Guava Pink Flesh can be stored in a freezer up to a year without loss of quality! The fruit bruises easily, which explains why this "superfruit" is not widely exported.
