Physical Description:
Juneberries grow on bushes with largish matte-green leaves. In the spring, the blossoms are sparse, having five petals. The berries closely resemble blueberries, and are ripe when they turn dark blue.
Usage:
The berries are great eaten fresh, straight off the bush. They also can be made into jam, jelly or liquor.
Factoids:
Juneberries are called such because they fruit in June. They also are known as "Service Berries" because they blossom in April when the long-postponed religious services could be held after the snowmelt.
