Physical Description: 

Olives have dark, olive-green leaves that are smooth and elongated. The trees have grayish bark. The olive fruit is small and hard and looks like caper berries.

Usage: 

Olives can be pressed for their oil. The fruit can be prepared for consumption by fermentation, brine baths or preparation with lye.

Factoids: 

Offering someone an olive branch means to make entreaties for peace. Because of this, they are part of the symbol for the United Nations.
