Physical Description:
Pecans are tall deciduous trees, with toothy, pointed leaves that point downward and grow opposite each other. The nuts are encased in smooth shells, that emerge from three cornered pods.
Usage:
Pecans are great in sweet breads and desserts. They also can be used in savory nut applications: salads, crusts on meats etc.
Factoids:
The word "pecan" comes from Algonquin, and means nut requiring a stone to crack.
