Starfruit

Latin Name: 

Averrhoa carambola

Physical Description: 

Starfruit trees have pointy leaves that are lighter green on the edges. The hand-sized greenish-yellow fruit has five lobes, which resemble stars when cut horizontally.

Usage: 

Starfruits are great fresh, and can be juiced or macerated to make a tangy sweet sauce.

Factoids: 

The leaves and roots of the Starfruit are reputed to be used to help cure headaches, ringworm and chickenpox, but no studies have proved this yet.
