Thimbleberry

Latin Name: 

Rubus parviflorus

Physical Description: 

Thimbleberry plants are a shrub up to 8 feet tall; the leaves turn orange to maroon in the fall. The fruits are larger and softer than raspberries, with many small seeds, called drupes.

Usage: 

Thimbleberries make excellent jelly, but is generally considered too seedy for jam. Due to their softness making it prohibitvely expensive to pick, pack and ship, thimbleberries are not commercially cultivated.

Factoids: 

Thimbleberry leaves have been driend and powdered and used as a poltice to prevent scarring from burns in some herbal medicine traditions.
